Abide, the new display typeface by Barrett Reid-Maroney

Jesus effin’ Christ, Barrett Reid-Maroney.

Why do you hate me having money so much?

Abide is another spectacular display typeface from the creator of recent classics Allusion Display and Personify. Regular readers of the blog may remember that I wanted to bang Personify really hard, but stopped myself when I suddenly remembered I was married.

Abide is a sans-serif typeface that kinda tricks you into thinking it’s a serif one, an effect that I ascribe to its anti-ink traps if that makes any sense. If it doesn’t, read a book, you savage.

The font comes in one weight and one style, and it contains uppercase and lowercase characters. Barrett doesn’t come out and say it but, to me, the letterforms are reminiscent of graphic design work from the sixties, and so it’d be a great fit for stuff like record covers for psych-rock and even baroque pop. That’s why I went ahead and created a quick-and-dirty record cover for an imaginary album by an imaginary band.

It’s not perfect but, hey, what is? (answer: your mom)
