Foundry Showcase: Yeahright Type
There’s only one thing I love more than discovering exciting new typefaces*, and that’s discovering exciting new foundries.
Yeahright Type showed up on my IG feed a couple of days ago, and I immediately knew I had to write something about them.
This is the kind of foundry I adore: a one-man show, essentially, that produces high-quality fonts, priced at a much lower price than their quality would suggest.
Here’s what Zac says about Yeahright
Yeahright Type Studio is the creative endeavor of Zac Neulieb founded in 2021 during a global pandemic with the philosophy of making charming display typefaces at reasonable prices.
I feel like more of us would agree that’s an admirable mission statement. Also, if you’ve been reading this blog for more than a second, you know that I’m partial to sans display typefaces.
There was a specific font I just couldn’t resist purchasing immediately, and that was Alpiner. Immediately recognizable as a retro signage font, I decided to remove it from its alpine context and use it for something quite a bit different: summery designs, based around my Mediterranean hometown of Larnaca, Cyprus.
But I didn’t call this a “foundry showcase” for nothing, and I’d hate you to think that Alpiner is the only typeface on the site worthy of consideration. Quite the contrary: other than Alpiner immediately capturing my (subjective) sensibilities, it would be pretty hard to pick one between the rest of the gorgeous fonts on offer. So I’ll go with three.
Warmachine is an imposing all-caps geometric sans with four weights and a quite distinctive condensed appearance. Definitely my thing, and something I’d wholeheartedly recommend for headlines and posters.
Butch Queen is a display serif with a strong personality and what can only be described as thorny serifs. If I wanted a design for a harmonica box or a retro matchbox, I’d pick this without a second thought. Just don’t piss it off.
Finally, Nice Weather is a beautiful handlettered-looking sans that can be had for free!
I’d strongly urge anyone with an interest in gorgeous type to visit Yeahright. This is not a sponsored post (none of my posts are) and I get no affiliate commision, Zac’s work is just that good.
*I hope my wife and kids never read this.
