Gogoia: a fresh sans serif display font inspired by tropicalia

I love Brazil. Not that I’ve ever been there.

There are many aspects of Brazil that I like. For one, Terry Gilliam’s Brazil is probably my favorite film of all time. But even more than that, Bossa Nova Is My Jam™ and a strong influence on my own music. This is also why I chose to learn Brazilian Portuguese in Duolingo.

Well, I just found another thing from / about Brazil that I like and it’s Gogoia. This free display typeface comes in two styles (Regular and Deco) and its slightly alien design makes it even more appealing to a total nerd like me, who grew up on a steady diet of souvlaki and sci-fi b-movies.

Its designer claims it was inspired by Brazilian Tropicalia (another musical period / movement that I adore) but if they’d told me it was inspired by the covers of old sci-fi novels from the 60s onwards I’d still believe them.

Let me show you how awesome it looks by creating a very quick design as usual
