Balter Serif: a brand-new display with a fresh retro-ness.

Regulars on this site will know that we had our second child two weeks ago, which is what turned this place from The Daily Typographic into The Weekly Typographic, If The Shit Isn’t Too Much.

Turns out, this baby is a black hole of milk. She needs it. She craves it.

This inspired me to make today’s 5-minute design, seen below

I know, I’m up to my old tricks of adding noise everywhere, but you try raising two children while working a full-time job, keeping a blog going, and trying to launch a career as a sci-fi author. Yeah, thought so, chicken.

But that font though, right?

Balter Serif is an all-caps cute-as-hell display font with a distinctly mid-century/tiki aesthetic and I love it. In addition to the gorgeous letterforms, you also get amazing ligatures, lower- and uppercase characters you can mix and match for that nice bouncy effect created by differently-sized characters, and five different styles that you can layer together to create lovely designs effortlessly.

“But wait, you’re contradicting yourself! Is it an all-caps font or does it have uppercase and lowercase characters?”

It’s an all-caps font, dude. The lowercase characters are simply smaller caps. Capisce?

You can buy Balter Serif HERE for money. How much I can’t say, since you can purchase individual styles or get the entire family which at the time of writing costs a very reasonable $24.99.
