There are not many foundries making typefaces with Greek characters, but thankfully the ones that do are doing an amazing job.

I recently wrote a post about Okeanos, a lovely handwritten font by nantia.co.

While I was on their site, I browsed around and their shop and discovered a ton of beautiful typefaces that I wanted to investigate in the future. So when the time came for me to create a book cover for my dad’s collection of three novellas (yes, my dad’s an author) in Greek, I knew exactly where to go to get the fonts that I needed.

My plan was to create something inspired by Saul Bass’s iconic posters for Hitchcock’s film, especially since the novellas are murder/crime mysteries.

Some further explanation is in order: the Greek title means “The Cat’s Bark” and the three-letter word in the speech bubble is the Greek counterpart to “woof”.

The typefaces I used are NF-PAGKAKI and NF-LUKA and you can find both in the shop page of nantia.com. At first, I was only going to use NF-PAGKAKI, but that made the cover kinda bland, so I used NF-LUKA to set my dad’s name.

Here’s a mockup of the book using the cover I created.

Pretty neat, right?
Needless to say, the font files also contain latin characters, so everybody should visit nantia.co and check out their amazing display typefaces.
