Last post of the year: 5 favorite fonts from 2020!
I’ve reviewed many fonts over the Year of the Coronavirus, but here are my five favorite fonts from this year.
Wooden Okadio - It was an easy choice. Such a stunning typeface with amazing ligatures. In a couple of years when The Daily Typographic’s Typeface of the Year actually means something, remember that the first typeface that honor went to was Wooden Okadio.
Origamic - Yep, our second choice is a free typeface. So what? It’s not very flexible but it’s endlessly evocative and brightly optimistic. I know that the web is flooded with free typefaces, with approximately one being released every picosecond, but this is one of the good ones.
Tropik Island - How can you not love this font? Tiki bar aesthetics combined with just-perfect ligatures and some lovely extras is an irresistible proposition.
Gallos - Its milkshake brings all the boys to the yard, damn right, it’s better than yours. I can teach you, but I have to charge.
Modern Society - This is a very recent free release that you should definitely check out, even if you have a hard disk coming apart at the seams with typefaces. Its USP is its constant height characters, a feature that gives it a very distinctive look. Don’t be a fool and go check this out.
I can assure you that this wasn’t an easy list to make. So many amazing fonts came out this year that it was hard picking out just five as our favorites. But end-of-the-year lists must be done, and so they were!
See you next year!
