Alt Foundry: a garden of unearthly delights.

You know how it goes: you’ve just made yourself a nice, warm cup of coffee and you’re nonchalantly scrolling through Behance, when something makes you sit up and take notice.

That happens to me fairly regularly. And today it did again when I spotted a new font called Hazer, designed by Alt Foundry.

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to create my regular 5-minute design with Hazer, because when I visited the foundry’s site to download it, it wasn’t there. I guess these things tend to happen when you (like me) move faster than electricity.

What got my attention with Hazer, a nice, layered (I suppose, that’s what the specimens suggest) chunky sans display sans that will be available for free is not just the way it looks, but also the fact that it includes Greek (yay!) characters which is something that, as a Greek Cypriot, I’m always happy about.

Here’s a tip for you: even if Hazer is still not there (I guess it’s going to be available soon), check out Andreas’s store. There are some amazing fonts in there, some free, some very cheap. It really feels like an all-you-can-eat buffet to someone like me.

Since I won’t be able to showcase Hazer today, I went ahead and downloaded another lovely typeface called Retro (which, goddamn, even though it;s free still has five weights), and boy is the name not a coincidence. I went ahead and did something really simple with it, just to have something to show you:

You probably know that after publishing this post I’ll be back on Alt Foundry’s shop to spend some hard-earned cash I could’ve spent on my family on fonts. Hey, don’t judge me, other people spend it on cocaine and prostitutes.

I’ll also get in touch with the foundry’s owner and see if it would be possible to make this Free Font Friday’s font giveaway one of his fonts. I’ll let you guys and gals know!
